ADHD Wild Women Podcast: Episode 9: Step One: I Acknowledge the Unconscious Myth I was Living

What if the story you were living wasn’t your own?
2

In this latest episode, I kick off with the first in a new 12 Step mythic recovery programme for women with ADHD. Step One is all about acknowledging the unconscious myth we’ve been living and the fact we have had to reject the wild (soul) to survive.

I cover how ADHD has been relegated to the shadow in the collective unconscious of western culture, limitations in the pathological model of ADHD — which simply views it as a problem to be managed — and the deeper psychic cost of masking, self-abandonment, and internalised shame.

I also explore how certain cultural scripts alienate women with ADHD from their inner rhythm and soul-calling. I reflect on shadow work, the witch wound, and the Jungian idea of individuation, as well as how fairy tales like The Little Mermaid can symbolically express the trauma of silencing ourselves to fit in.

This is an invitation to begin again, to unearth the old myth, and make space for a new one. One where you don’t have to walk with knives in your feet just to belong.
